BIO  

Thomas R, Ruffin was born on February 22, 1963 in Hattiesburg, MS to Thomas E, and Jackie Ruffin.  The family moved to Jackson. MS in 1966 and eventually settled in Clinton a few years later.   

In his early years of high school Thomas and a friend formed a rock band that would go on to gain a moderate following and enjoyed some success.  

Upon graduating high school, Thomas, eager to join the work force, set out for Houston, Texas where he found employment as a deckhand on a tugboat. 
Thomas returned to Mississippi in the fall of 1981 and was hired by the Mississippi
State Hospital's security unit where he worked his first undercover assignment. 

Ruffin joined the United States Army in the summer of 1983 and attended BasicTraining and AIT at Ft, McLellan, Alabama.  His first duty station was Ft. Hood, Texas, with the 411th Military Police Company, 720th Military Police BattaIion.  There he served as a Military Policeman.  Thomas was sent to Darmstadt, West Germany where he was seleted to work on the Drug Suppresion Team as a Military Police Investigator under the supervision of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID). Thomas worked numerous undercover assig
nments in conjunction with the German Polizei,

Thomas returned to the U
S and Mississippi in 1986 upon the completion of his active duty commitment.  

In 1987 Thomas joined the ranks of the Clinton Police Department in Clinton, MS.  He served there as a Patrol Officer, Public Relations Officer. Detective, and SWAT Operator.  He also took on a  collateral assignment with the MS Bureau of Narcotics as a Special Agent.  Thomas was named Special Agent of the Year in 1992.

In 1995 Thomas accepted an appointment to the Federal Bureau of Inves
tigation as a Special Agent.  Upon completion of training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, Thomas was stationed at the Newark Division in Newark, New Jersey.  There he was assigned to a South American Drug Squad and he was collaterally assigned to the Crisis Negotiation Team

In 1998 Thomas returned to the Clinton Police Department and was assigned as Commander of the Special Operations Group.

Thomas served as a board member of the Mississippi Tactical Officers Association
 for about 12 years

From 2000 to  2012 Thomas was an adjunct professor at Mississippi College in Clinton, MS

Thomas retired from CPD in 2007

Thomas was a baseball umpire with the MHSAA officiating high school and college games for 15 years.
